The Power of a StoryFor as long as humans have created art we have used the power of storytelling to pass on information, to learn about ourselves and the world around us. The stories I tell vary, sometimes I bring someone from the past to life, other times a character built on the lives of many, and sometimes even a character from the imaginations of others, but found at their centre is always the desire to create opportunities for the audience to connect and become a part of the telling.
Nicknamed Kindriana Jones, I often spend my time seeking out my own stories of adventures. From climbing active volcanoes, to sailing across the Channel on The Matthew, living in a roundhouse, casting my own bronze sword, making armour, or flying a Tiger Moth, all these experiences enrich the material I can pull on when recounting the daring deeds of my characters. |
I learnt a lot of things, and it was so interesting. I enjoyed acting out. It was amazing. It was funny when Oscar had to ring the bell and shout...I wish I could do it again. - KS2 Pupil |
Meaningful PlayWe learn best when we are so interested and engaged that we don't even realise there is anything to learn. My museum and school workshops are educational and multi-curricular, but not at the expense of fun! Want to learn about castles and knight? Smell the food, try on the clothes, experience medieval social hierachy and even have a go at learning to sword fight from an original manual!
The wonderful thing about history is that it literally covers everything - science, geography, maths, literacy - I can adapt to hit your targets. Thanks again for today. It was brilliant...For the next few weeks, we will be constantly referring back to your visit. Thanks for the inspiration and vivid memories you created. - KS1 Teacher |
Public Experience DaysWorking closely with your collection and space, I will create an event catered to you. Whether you want to highlight a particular object and its history, or bring to life a moment from the past, working together we will ensure an experience to remember for your visitors, young and old alike. I work hard to not only create engaging characters, but to also create opportunities for the visitor can really feel like they are able to touch the past, whether it's examining the contents of a pocket or trying out a few steps of a dance. To me it is important that the audience is never merely spectators, but given the chance to step forward and be a part of the scene.
